Lets talk about dreams!

“Go confidently in the directions of your dreams and live the life you imagined.” – Thoreau

When I was growing up, my biggest dream was to become a backup singer for The Supremes. I was obviously very young at the time and was naïve to the fact the singing group had long broken up by the late 80’s – early 90’s.

(For those who are even younger than me, The Supremes were a female singing group in the 1960’s fronted by the one and only Diana Ross.)

Then due to the harsh realities of life, I decided that dreaming was far too dangerous. Disappointment was inevitable and no one like me, in my station in life would amount to much. One of the main lies I believed was that I was a victim of my circumstance. See, I believed that because I did not come from money, I was not presented opportunity after opportunity like some of my other friends. That belief also caused me not to step out and ask for said opportunities. I believed I was invisible and worthless and made myself in turn become invisible. Coming from a childhood of poverty and a broken, volatile and abusive home confirmed these beliefs in my adolescent mind and heart.

Fast forward through my teens and early 20’s, I was blessed to encounter adults who believed in me far more than I was capable of for myself. They challenged me and encouraged me, without which – let’s just say I’d be on a vastly different path than I am now. Even with those influences, I still underestimated what I was capable of but there was something inside me pushing for more. I sought out personal growth and healing as much as I could. I discovered that God actually wanted me to dream, He created me for it. He created you and I in His image! If He is the creator then we are creative beings – created to create. When we limit ourselves because of fear or limiting beliefs about ourselves, we are not being our authentic true selves. We are robbing the world of our contribution and ourselves from being fully alive.

“Dreaming with God is becoming the you He had in mind when He made you.” -Dreaming with God

I’ve been thinking a lot about dreams lately, I’ve been working very hard this year to work towards some of my dreams, and some I’ve made happen! But I know part of my purpose here on earth is to use what I have to help others, so if you need someone to remind you, challenge you and encourage you in your dream – I’m your girl! Just think of me as your own personal cheerleader!
